Wooden Boat

After a family friend gifted me a Delta 8″ bandsaw he didn’t need anymore, I decided I needed to come up with a project idea to utilize the saw. My son was almost one year old and starting to really enjoy playing in the bath, so I decided a wooden boat would do the trick. I ordered a large chunk of poplar from woodworker’s source and got to work.

I started by tracing the exterior and interior shape onto the block then routing out the interior.

Then I put the block on the bandsaw with a bit of an angle on the table to cut the perimeter with sloping sides.

And then my boat failed the float test–too much weight forward, so I used a Dremel to hollow out the bow, and a bathtime favorite was born.
